About Bill Hunt

Woodcarver, craftsman, and artist rooted in the traditions of handwork, patience, and respect for natural materials. Bill Hunt is a Central Oregon woodcarver whose work reflects a lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship, nature, and the stories held within natural materials. His approach to carving is grounded in patience and observation, allowing each piece of wood to guide the final form rather than forcing a predetermined design.

A Life Shaped by Experience and Craft

Bill Hunt was born in Canada and immigrated to Spokane, Washington at the age of two. Before discovering wood carving, Bill spent more than five decades in the real estate industry, building a career defined by leadership, global experience, and growth. He began as a broker in Spokane and went on to hold executive roles around the world, including serving as President of Century 21 China, where he oversaw the country’s largest real estate group with more than 20,000 agents across 1,500 offices in 31 cities.

Throughout his career, Bill lived and worked overseas for more than 20 years, helping expand Century 21 Real Estate across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Latin America. From 2011 to 2018, he continued his global work by assisting Keller Williams Real Estate with expansion into 43 countries. These experiences shaped his appreciation for craftsmanship, culture, and the value of patience and process, lessons that would later influence his artistic work.

Bill is also a published author, having written two books, Memoirs of a Franchise Gypsy and Insights from a Franchise Insider, which reflect on his global career and the lessons learned along the way. Both books are available through Amazon and offer insight into leadership, adaptability, and working across cultures.

After retiring, Bill turned his focus to wood carving, discovering a creative outlet that combined patience, craftsmanship, and storytelling. He began creating his well-known Fence Post Ducks using 100-year-old cedar fencing salvaged from Central Oregon cattle ranches. As a lifelong golfer and fisherman, his work naturally expanded into his Golf Art Series and Fish Art, repurposing rare persimmon wood golf clubs and juniper branches into one-of-a-kind pieces that blend function, tradition, and artistry.

Since retiring to Central Oregon in 2016, Bill and his wife Gilda have made their home in Redmond at Eagle Crest Resort. Over the past several years, Bill has participated in numerous arts and crafts shows throughout the region, sharing his work with the local community and beyond. Today, his carvings reflect a lifetime of experience, a respect for natural materials, and a belief that old wood still has meaningful stories to tell.
